Instructions

Step 1

First, open the glass beaker image in Photoshop. Select the outline of the glass with the Pen Tool or the Straight Lasso Tool. Save this selection by clicking "Selection" then "Save Selection" under any name and click OK. Remove the selection by pressing "Ctrl + D".

Step 2

Create a copy of the layer by clicking on the layer with the glass with the right mouse button and select "Duplicate layer".

Step 3

Change the mode from “RGB” to “Grayscale”. Open "Image - Mode - Grayscale". When a dialog box appears informing you that the change might affect the display of the layers, and you are prompted to perform image flattening before changing the mode, click Don't Run. When prompted to delete color data, click Cancel.

Step 4

Open the previously saved order book selection. To do this, go to: "Selection - Load selection - Source - Channel". Give a name to the selected object. To invert the selection press "Ctrl + Shift + I". Fill the selection with 50% gray by pressing Shift + F5. Press "Ctrl + D" to deselect. Then open the menu "Filters - Blur - Gaussian Blur". A blur radius of 2px works well. Save the file as PSD.

Step 5

Next, open the photo where you want to place the glass cup. Go back to the PSD file again. Next, load the selection and press "Ctrl + C" to copy the glass and return to the background photo. By pressing "Ctrl + V", you will insert a glass. Change the Blending Mode to "Hard Light" on the glass layer. Double click on the layer name, staying on the glass layer. To adjust the transparency of the glass, open the Blending Options window. At the bottom, you will see two black lines. Move the "Underlying layer" line while holding down the "Alt" key.

Step 6

To give the glass a more realistic look, go to background and click on the glass layer thumbnail through which the background image is visible.
