Despite the widespread use of laptops, netbooks, tablets, a desktop computer is still popular, and an external monitor will not be superfluous for a laptop or netbook.
Let's think about what the average user pays attention to when choosing a new monitor for their computer? Of course, this is the size (diagonal), brand, price.
In most stores you can find a monitor with a diagonal of 17 to 34 inches. If you work with a large amount of information (especially if it is open in several windows or editors) or you need to work with large diagrams or drawings, you should pay attention to larger monitors (from 24 inches). Also, large monitors are preferred by gamers for the same reasons. In addition to the size of the screen, pay attention to the possibility of adjusting the tilt of the monitor and its height above the table surface.
Helpful advice: not only the size of the diagonal is important, but also the aspect ratio of the screen, its resolution. On a monitor with a low resolution, the image will be ugly, grainy. If you need high quality images, choose monitors that support HD, FullHD or UltraHD (depending on the monitor size).
As for the brand and price, I must say that when purchasing monitors of well-known brands, you overpay a certain amount for the brand, but often such an overpayment can be justified, since some manufacturers have higher reliability of monitors.
Other important parameters:
- viewing angles (choose a monitor with viewing angles as large as possible if you plan, for example, to watch movies from a computer in a large company), - matrix type (TN - inexpensive and fast, PVA and MVA - a relatively low price, high contrast and at the same time good speed, IPS (PLS) - most often expensive, but have high-quality color reproduction and contrast, so they can be recommended for working with graphics and photos), - contrast (the lower this indicator, the worse the black color is displayed), - response time (the less, the better, this parameter is especially important for gamers), - ports for connection (in inexpensive or outdated monitors, a VGA port is used to connect to a computer. More modern - DVI or HDMI),
- in modern monitors, you can also find built-in speakers, USB hubs, the ability to mount (VESA) a nettop to them or hang the monitor on a wall, etc.
Before buying a monitor, think about what it will be used for most often. Maybe at the computer, you or your loved ones will work with documents, process photos, edit videos (including professionally, for example, as part of self-employment) or play games? Or maybe it's surfing the Internet and chatting? The answers to these questions will allow you to choose the device that will allow you to solve your tasks in the most simple and convenient way.
Helpful advice: when buying a monitor, ask to turn it on, see for yourself the presence of dead pixels. They are clearly visible behind the screen, filled with one color, so ask to run a special test. The problematic pixels will be especially well visible in black and white (you will see them as contrasting points).
