It is convenient to work with images composed of separate layers in the graphics editor Adobe Photoshop. For example, to desaturate one layer, you can use at least three different tools.

Instructions

Step 1

After loading the desired document into the graphic editor, in the layers panel, select the line of the layer that you want to make black and white. After that select one of the desaturation tools. Open the section "Image" in the program menu and in the subsection "Correction" click on the line "Hue / Saturation". This action can be replaced by pressing the Ctrl + U keyboard shortcut. In the window that opens, move the middle slider - "Saturation" - to the left to the very edge of the scale, or enter a value of -100 in the field to the right above this scale. You will see the result of the layer discoloration immediately. If it suits you, click OK.

Step 2

Another tool is placed in the same subsection “Adjustments” of the “Image” section of the Photoshop menu and is named very succinctly - “Desaturate”. This command also works without asking clarifying questions - select this item and the layer will become black and white without any additional settings. If the effect of the Desaturate command meets your expectations, use the shortcut Ctrl + Shift + U to quickly invoke it.

Step 3

The third tool, in contrast to the previous one, offers the largest set of desaturation settings. A link to call a window with its control elements is carried out from the same subsection "Correction" of the "Image" section in the menu - select the item "Black and white" in it. This command is also associated with the key combination - Ctrl + Shift + alt="Image" + B. There are six sliders in the settings window, with which you can adjust the depth of black when converting different shades of the original image to it. You can choose one of the preset settings in the drop-down list “Set of parameters, or choose the necessary values yourself, visually controlling the changes being made. When you have achieved the desired result, click the OK button.
