Step 1
Before connecting a microphone to a computer, carefully review the configuration of the equipment installed on it. You will need to find a sound card. You will see it if your speakers are connected to your computer, following the wire to which socket the corresponding plug is inserted. If your computer does not have a sound card built into the motherboard, or a sound card separately installed in the slot, purchase it at any store that sells computer components.
Step 2
Having dealt with the sound card and, if necessary, installing it in the system unit, study the purpose of all the slots that are located on it. Depending on the configuration, the sound card can have 5.1 or 7.1 audio outputs, in which case it will have several jacks that can get confused. Find the output that is for the microphone. Most often, on the sound card, on the side where the outputs are located, next to each socket is a schematic diagram of the device that is connected to it.
Step 3
Connect a microphone. With your computer turned on, go to the Volume Mixer settings. Adjust the sound level, as well as additional settings, if available. For example, amplifying the microphone signal. However, they may not exist: it depends on the capabilities of the sound card. If you have speakers connected, then speaking a few words into the microphone, you will hear your own voice.
