A mobile computer display consumes a relatively large amount of power. In addition, some users prefer to share an external monitor with a laptop. There are various ways to turn off the built-in display.
Instructions
Step 1
Read the instructions for your mobile computer. Find out the purpose of the function keys. Press the combination of the Fn button and keys from the F1-F12 row to quickly turn off the laptop display. Remember that the screen may resume after pressing any key.
Step 2
The mobile computer display turns off automatically when you close the device cover. The main problem is that the initial parameters of the operating systems put the laptop into "Sleep" or "Hibernation" modes. Disable the execution of this algorithm.
Step 3
Open the control panel and find the Power Options submenu. It is usually located in the "System" section. Click on the link "Additional power options".
Step 4
Expand the Power button and lid column and navigate to the Lid Close Action category. Set On Battery and Plugged In to No Action Required.
Step 5
Click the Apply button. Now, when you close the laptop lid, the display will automatically turn off without any changes in the operation of the operating system.
Step 6
Return to the Power Options menu and click on the Set Up Power Plan link. Set the amount of time after which the display will turn off automatically. Naturally, the screen will only be turned off if you haven't used the laptop for a specified amount of time.
Step 7
If you prefer to use an additional display for notebooks, disable the built-in screen completely. To do this, open the "Device Manager" menu and expand the "Monitors" category.
Step 8
Right-click on the name of the built-in display and select "Disable". Remember that you will not be able to use the laptop screen until you activate it. Do not use this method unless absolutely necessary.
