The amount of built-in RAM in a video card reflects how much information can be stored on the graphics card itself. The more memory a graphics card has, the more data it can store without using slow RAM access. Although the large size of the video memory does not affect the speed of graphics processing, when using an increased data bus or system RAM to cache frequently displayed items, the speed of the video adapter can increase significantly.

Instructions

Step 1

First, try to set the size of the video memory either in the BIOS or in the Windows video settings (usually, the increase in the video memory of a laptop occurs at the expense of RAM, but in this case the video card must contain memory combined with RAM).

Step 2

The second available way to independently increase video memory is to replace a video card, which is possible only if the laptop has a discrete video card, that is, it is structurally made on a separate board containing a graphics processor (or video chip) and video memory chips. The video card itself is inserted into the motherboard connector and secured with a couple of screws, but to get there, you will need to disassemble the laptop.

Step 3

To do this, turn off the power, remove the battery and the top cover above the keyboard, hiding the screws of its fasteners and screen hinges. Unscrew the keyboard screws that have opened to you.

Step 4

Lift the top edge of the keyboard and disconnect the ribbon cable by releasing the retaining bracket. On the right is the graphics card cooling system.

Step 5

Remove the screen, disconnect the matrix cable and the Wi-Fi module antenna. Unscrew the hinge screws and your mobile computer is decapitated.

Step 6

Release the remaining connectors and remove the screws holding the upper chassis frame. Flip the rest of the laptop over and remove the screws on the back around the entire perimeter, not forgetting the screw located under the battery. You will see the cooling system for the processor and north bridge on the left, and on the right is the video card, which can be easily removed by loosening four shiny screws.

Step 7

Remove the video card and then you can install a new one. Insert the video card straight, without slopes, into the AGP slot (or PCI-E if the card supports PCI Express connection). Use a little effort when slowly installing a new device. This is necessary so that the two sides of the card fit snugly into the slot. Secure the new video card with screws.
