Step 1
There are two types of Windows XP system recovery. The first type is the change in the configuration of the boot sector, and the second is the return of the system to a certain checkpoint. If Windows throws an error during startup, use the first type specified.
Step 2
Insert the bootable disc into the drive. Turn on your laptop or desktop computer. Open the Quick Launch menu and select Boot from DVD Drive. Wait while Windows Setup starts.

Press the R key to open System Restore Console. Select from the available options the copy of Windows you need by clicking the corresponding number. After a while, the command line will be launched.

Enter the fixboot command and press the Enter key. Confirm the launch of this function by entering the letter Y. Wait for the utility to complete. Enter the fixmbr command and confirm the procedure again. Restart your computer by entering exit into the recovery console.

If you want to perform a system rollback, boot the system in safe mode. To do this, wait until the OS selection window appears and press the F8 key. Select "Windows Safe Mode".

Go to the Start menu and open the All Programs folder. Select the "Accessories" subdirectory and open the "System Utilities" item. Click on the "System Restore" icon. Select the option "Restore the computer to a previous state."
Step 7
Go to the list of active checkpoints. Choose the one that was created later than the others. Make sure that the recovery process does not affect important programs. All user files will be preserved during recovery.
Step 8
Click the Next button and wait for the computer to restart. Check the safety of important files.
