The com port is a rather outdated interface. But at the same time, this port can be present on many models of motherboards. If for some reason you need to connect a device that has a som-interface, then you may need to find out the port number to which this device is connected, and only then make the necessary settings for its correct operation.

- - AIDA64 Extreme Edition program.
Instructions
Step 1
Click on the "My Computer" icon with the right mouse button. Select Properties from the context menu. If your operating system is Windows XP, then in the next window select "Hardware", then - "Device Manager". If your computer is running Windows 7, you can select Device Manager immediately.
Step 2
A window will appear in which there will be a list of all devices that are on your computer. In this list, you need to find the line "COM and LPT ports". Click on the arrow next to the line. A list of COM ports that are installed on your PC will open.
Step 3
Right-click on the port number, then select Properties from the context menu. You will see the device that is connected to this port. In this way, you can find out the port number of the catfish to which the desired device is connected.
Step 4
You can also use the AIDA64 Extreme Edition computer diagnostics and monitoring program. The program is paid, but you can find its trivial version on the Internet. The capabilities of the free version are enough to find out the som port number. Download the application from the Internet and install it on your computer hard drive.
Step 5
Launch AIDA64 Extreme Edition. After launching it, you will have to wait a few seconds. The program will scan the system. After that, you will see that the menu is split into two windows. You will need the left window, in which find the line "Devices". Click on the arrow next to it. Find in the list the devices that are connected to the COM-ports (it may simply be written “Com-devices”).
Step 6
Click on the "Devices" line with the left mouse button. After that, a list of devices that are connected to the COM ports will appear in the right window of the program. So you can find out the number of the som port to which the device is connected. You can save the report if necessary.
