By their purpose, the tools in Photoshop are divided into four categories: selection, movement, and cropping; measurement; retouching and painting; drafting and text. All of them are located on a special panel that is located on the left side of the screen. At the same time, tools that are similar in functionality are grouped into sets. The small black triangle located in the lower right corner of the button indicates that there are several tools underneath it.

Step 1
Selection is at the heart of working with an image in Photoshop. It is with its help that you show the program which fragment of the image you want to work with. You can create a selection based on its shape or color.
Step 2
To select a geometrically correct area, four tools from the Marquee set - "Area" are used. All of them are located under one button and are called by the hot key M. You can switch between them using the keyboard shortcut Shift + M.
Step 3
To create a free-form selection, use one of Lasso's three Lasso tools, which are invoked by the L hotkey. Note that Magnetic Lasso is used if there is a sharp contrast between the selected object and the surrounding area.

For selection by color, there are Quick Selection tools - "Quick Selection", which works well on contrasting images, highlighting pixels of a given color, and Magic Wand - "Magic Wand", convenient for selecting large homogeneous areas (W key).

To create selections, the Quick Mask mode is also used. To switch to it, you need to press the hot key Q. In addition, for precise selection of the contour, use the Pen tool - "Pen" (key P).

You can move a layer or a selection using the special Move tool. Hold the Shift key to move strictly vertically or horizontally. And if you hold Alt while moving, then Photoshop will create a copy of the object (V key).

To crop the image or correct the perspective of the image, use the tools group Crop - "Frame". The same set includes two more tools for web design: Slice - "Cutting", dividing the image into slices, and Slice Select - "Select slices" (key C).

To take a sample of the color already present in the image, use the Eadropper tool - "Eyedropper". Color Sampler - "Color sampler" allows you to mark the selected colors. Tool 3D Material Eyedropper - "3D-material eyedropper" is used to define the color of a 3d object (key E).

There are five retouching tools in Photoshop. Minor skin imperfections such as moles or pimples are removed with the Spot Healing Brush and the Healing Brush. For working with larger fragments, the Patch tool is suitable.

This set also includes the Red Eye Tool for removing red-eye and Content-Aware Move / Content-Aware Scale for Content-Aware Move / Content-Aware Scale that moves or scales selected objects. (J key).

The Eraser toolbox is designed to erase the pixels of a layer. Background Eraser - "Background eraser" and Magic Eraser - "Magic eraser" work only on contrasting areas (key E).

If you need to fill an area of the image with one color, use the Paint Bucket tool. To create smooth transitions, use a Gradient - "Gradient". When working with three-dimensional objects, you will need the 3d Select Material tool - it is used to define a material sample and apply it to a 3d model (G key).

To process the edges of the image, the tools Blur - "Blur" and Sharpen - "Sharpness" are used. Smudge - "Finger" smudges the image. There is no hotkey for calling these tools.

To increase the highlights or lighten a small area, use the Dodge Tool. And to process shadows use Burn - "Dimmer". Decrease the saturation using the Sponge tool (key O).

Below the Pen button is a group of five tools for creating and editing paths based on anchor points. The pen is also used to accurately outline complex objects in order to create a mask or selection.

To work with text, use the tools of the Type - "Text" group. Here you can select a tool for writing horizontal or vertical text, and also use one of the Type Mask tools - "Text Mask" to create textured text. Customize the text using special palettes.

To create various shapes, there is a group of tools Rectangle - "Shapes". Among them there are tools for both creating regular geometric shapes and for drawing arbitrary ones.
