What do you need to know before setting up a router?

Before setting up your router, you need to check with your ISP which type of network protocol is being used. If the type of network connection is Dynamic IP, then the settings for the router are determined automatically, if Static IP - you need to check all the parameters with the provider, such as: IP address, gateway, subnet mask. There are also PPPoE and PPTP protocols, their configuration boils down to the fact that the user just needs to enter the login and password, which is prescribed in the contract with the provider.

D-link dir 615 router installation instructions

The first thing you need to configure the router is to connect D-link to the charger and connect it to the computer on which the connection will be configured. For this procedure, you will need the cable that comes with the router. You need to connect it with one end to the connector of the computer's network card, and the other to the router, to any of the 4 ports labeled LAN. After that, you should connect the Internet cable to the router to the connector with the name WAN or Internet.

After connecting, you need to configure the Internet and wireless network on your computer. To do this, you need to open any browser, where in the address bar, enter - 192.168.0.1 and press Enter, using this network address you can get into the settings of the router itself. But first you need to go through authorization, for D-link dir 615 in the line - "Login" write "Admin", in the line - "Password" do not need to write anything.

After authorization, a window will appear where below you need to click on the "Manual Internet Connection Setup" button, which will allow you to go to the full list of settings for the Internet connection. In this window, first of all, you need to select the mode in which the router will be connected, it depends on the type of the provider's network protocol.

If the provider uses the "PPPoE" protocol and automatically receives a local IP address, then in the "My Internet Connection" section, select PPPoE connection and Dynamic IP mode. Then fill in the fields: "User Name" and "Password" - login and password from the agreement with the Internet provider, "Verify Password" - repeat the entered password, "MTU" with a value of 1472, and click on the "Clone MAC Address" button. In connection mode "Connect mode select" select "Always on" for a permanent connection. After all operations, you need to save the settings with the "Save Settings" button and wait for the router to reboot.

If the provider uses the data transfer protocol - PPtP (VPN), then the difference in the connection with the PPPoE protocol is that in the field "My Internet Connection" you need to select the PPtP (VPN) setting, and in the terms of the login and password enter the username and a password for authorization in the provider's network. The rest of the steps are similar to the PPPoE protocol.

Also, the provider can use either static or dynamic IP - address acquisition. If it is static, then it is necessary to select the “Static IP” mode in the “Address Mode” field. In this mode, you need to clarify everything specifically with the provider and fill in the IP Address issued by the provider, subnet mask, gateway, DNS Address, username and password in the provider's network in the appropriate fields.

Of course, the easiest way to do this is to dynamically determine the address. To do this, simply select the "Dynamic IP" mode in the "My Internet Connection" field, click the "Clone MAC Address" button and save the settings.

Whatever the connection type, after saving the settings and restarting the router, you need to go to the "Control Panel", then to the "Network and Internet Connections" section, to the "Network Connections" tab, and check that the local network connection is active …

After connecting to the Internet, you need to configure the security of the wireless network. In the router settings, go to the “Wireless Settings” tab, and click “Manual Wireless Network Setup” at the bottom. Next, set the name of the wireless network in the “Wireless Network Name” field, in the “Channel Width” item, find “Auto 20/40 MHz”. The following fields to fill out will be responsible for network security. In the "Security Mode" field, select "WPA - Personal", and in the "Pre-Shared Kay" line, enter the wireless network key (at least 8 numbers / letters).

After entering the password, it is imperative to save all the settings by clicking on the "Save Settings" button.

Wait 15 seconds and the router is configured, now you can disconnect the router cable from the computer and use Wi-fi.

To connect to a wireless network, you need to click on the wireless connection icon in the form of a histogram in the taskbar, select the created connection in the window that appears, and click on the "Connect" button. After that, the setup is complete, now you can use Wi-Fi.

If a mistake was made when configuring the router, then this can be corrected. It is necessary to press the "RESET" button behind the router, with which you can reset all settings and start the procedure again.

You need to choose a strong password of at least 8 characters, it is desirable to include both alphabetic and numeric characters so that an outsider cannot use it.
