Instructions

Step 1

Choose a Wi-Fi router that works with your ISP. Determine if you need a WAN or DSL connector. Check the number of Ethernet ports to which you will connect desktop computers. Find out the types of Wi-Fi networks supported by the selected router.

Step 2

Connect this equipment to AC power. Connect the ISP cable to the WAN connector. Now connect your stationary computer or laptop to the LAN port of the Wi-Fi router. Turn on both devices.

Step 3

After the operating system has finished loading, open an Internet browser and enter https://192.168.2.1 (Edimax routers) in the address bar. In the menu that opens, fill in the Username and Password fields with the values admin and 1234, respectively. After opening the web-interface of the router, go to the General Setup menu and select the WAN item.

Step 4

Select the type of data link, for example PPTP, and click Next. Complete the following fields: User ID, Password, and PPTP Gateway. This data must be provided by your provider. Enter 1400 in the MTU field. Activate Dual Wan Access by checking the box next to it. Click the Apply button. The router will automatically reboot.

Step 5

Open the Status menu and select Internet Connection. Make sure the router connects to the server and obtains an IP address. Now open the General Setup menu again and go to Wireless.

Step 6

Configure the wireless network settings by specifying the name, password, security type, and radio signal. Click the Apply button and wait for the Wi-Fi router to reboot. Now open the Advanced Settings menu, select NAT and click Next. In the new menu, highlight the Virtual Server option and click Next. Now click the Apply button. This completes the configuration of the Edimax Wi-Fi router.
