Preparing for a system upgrade
Connect your computer to the Internet so that updates can be downloaded during system installation. Close the antivirus program and any user applications that are currently open. Insert the Windows 7 boot disk into the drive and wait for the installer to start. Select "Upgrade to Windows 7" from the main menu. In this case, all custom settings remain unchanged. Please note that this requires that a licensed version of XP is installed on the computer, otherwise you will be prompted to format the hard drive and install a "clean" system.
Find the 25-character Windows product key. It is usually listed on the cover of the installation disc or in an email if Windows 7 was purchased and downloaded from the Internet. Read the user agreement and give permission to install. The computer will then automatically restart. Please note that you can perform the above actions in another way. To do this, set the BIOS as the priority boot device CD-ROM and place the installation CD in the drive. When the computer boots up, the automatic installation of the system from the disk will begin, where you will be asked to select the necessary parameters and proceed directly to the installation process.
Installation process
Complete the system installation. On the Get Important Updates page, we recommend that you download the latest system updates to ensure a successful installation and protect your computer from various threats. To receive updates during the installation of Windows 7, the computer must be connected to the Internet. On the Select Installation Type page, select Custom. Select the partition that contains Windows XP (most often drive C:) and click Next. Set the date and time settings appropriate for your region, after which the computer will restart. On the Windows 7 boot screen, provide a computer name and set up user accounts.
Go through the system activation procedure by entering the license key using one of the available methods. The transition to the activation of the system is carried out through the taskbar at the bottom of the screen. Also update the system device drivers through the Device Manager service in the System Control Panel.
