The software is getting more sophisticated every year. This leads to the fact that the computer, which worked just a few years ago, no longer has enough performance. The situation is often aggravated by the accumulated problems with the operating system, which slow down the speed of the computer. In most cases, the user can independently increase the performance of the PC.
First, you need to determine what caused the slow PC. These can be software problems or poor computer configuration, and often both at once. You need to open the "Task Manager" (press Ctrl + Alt + Del) and see the load on the processor, memory and the number of running processes.
Already at this stage, it is possible to identify processes that consume large amounts of RAM and processor power. Typically, on a well-tuned computer, the total number of processes does not exceed 30-35.
Removing unnecessary processes
Each running process belongs to a particular program. See which processes consume maximum resources - if the process is unfamiliar to you, enter its name in a search engine, you will receive all the necessary information about it. Most often we are talking about one or another incorrectly working application or a virus program.
Stop the loading computer process through the "Task Manager". If you are using a stopped program, reinstall it, in many cases this will help to make it work. Pay special attention to programs that you usually do not need, but which themselves are launched via autoload. To remove them from startup, it is convenient to use the Aida64 or CCleaner programs.
It is very useful to stop services you do not need. To do this, open their list, it can be found through the "Control Panel", section "Administrative Tools". Search online for the exact list of services that can be stopped for your OS. After that, through the menu of the "Services" tab, disable all unnecessary services, this will add performance to your computer.
Do not forget to regularly clean your computer from unnecessary files, delete registry errors - the latter can be done using the already mentioned CCleaner program.
Self-service computer upgrade
If the software works fine, but the performance of the PC is still not enough, it needs to be upgraded. It is very important to correctly assess which components need to be replaced. First of all, estimate the amount of RAM, it should not be less than 2-3 GB. If there is enough RAM, evaluate the performance of the video card. To do this, you can use free test programs, they are easy to find on the net.
It is always necessary to upgrade the weakest link of the PC, limiting its performance. It is not worth changing the processor or video card if there is not enough RAM. Instead of replacing the processor, in many cases it will be more correct to choose a replacement video card - it is graphics processing that is one of the most critical, in terms of performance, processes.
Replacing the processor is the last option. Before deciding on it, soberly assess your skills - it will be necessary not only to choose a processor supported by the motherboard of your PC, but also to correctly install it. In particular, a replacement of the heat transfer paste will be required to effectively remove heat from the processor case. Incorrect application of the paste will cause the processor to overheat.
The vast majority of desktop upgrades can be performed by an experienced user himself. But if you doubt your abilities, it would be more correct to contact the service center.
