Optical fiber, despite its relative high cost and many difficulties in its laying and cutting, is gradually gaining ground from standard copper cables. Optical lines are being laid not only on the backbone sections of the network, but also on the vertical sections of the SCS.

It is necessary

  • - a specialized set of tools;
  • - cutter knife;
  • - side cutters (preferably ceramic).

Instructions

Step 1

Optical fiber crimping begins with cable stripping. Removing its upper layer and armor is practically no different from working with a copper analogue. The only thing to remember is that you must not allow kinks and strong bends in the cable, since fiber is very fragile in structure.

Step 2

After removing the first two protective covers, work with greater care so as not to damage the fiber optic cores. Try to make a shallow longitudinal cut with the cutter without breaking the integrity of the polyethylene sheath. Now remove the plastic cover and unwind the protective tape.

Step 3

The next stage of work can only be carried out using a specialized set of tools. Buying such a kit, you should not get cheaper, because the end result, as a rule, depends on the quality of the means you use.

Step 4

Next, you need to remove the buffer coating. Now it is compulsory to work with a stripper. Having set the minimum diameter on it (as a rule, there are only three possible), carefully cut the buffer cover. Then gently pull it off the fiber without kinking.

Step 5

Now you need to go to the assembly of the connector. Thread the fiber through the hole in the ferrule and secure it there with the specific adhesive provided in your kit. After the glue mass has set, it is necessary to remove the excess fiber length. To do this, using a scriber on the fiber, you must first apply a notch, and then chop it. Next, using a set of sandpaper, you should clean the tip. Go from coarser to finer emery, sanding first, then polishing and finishing the fiber to the required quality.

Step 6

You need to check your work with a special light microscope. In the event that you see an unevenness or a chip along the edge of the fiber, you need to either modify the tip with sandpaper, or cut the core again and start working on a new one.
