When working with graphic files in Photoshop, it may become necessary to turn off some of the layers that make up the image. This is done using the appropriate option of the Layers menu or through the layers palette.
Necessary
- - Photoshop program;
- - a file with several layers.
Instructions
Step 1
You can turn off layers in a multi-layer file using the Hide Layers option of the Layer menu. This option can affect several objects. To specify the layers to be turned off, open the Layers palette using the Layers option of the Window menu and Ctrl-click on the selected objects. To select several layers located in the palette one after another, you can select the first of them, press the Shift key and click on the last layer.
Step 2
Another way to disable layers is to click on the eye icon, which can be seen to the left of the layer icon. It is not necessary to select layers with this method. If a series of layers is selected in the document you are working with, disabling one of them by clicking the thumbnail will not affect the other selected images.
Step 3
Using the option from the Layer menu and clicking on the icon in the palette, you can turn off the layer with the image, the adjustment layer with the filter, the smart object, grouped layers and the image on the basis of which the clipping mask was created. As a result, the image layer or smart object will no longer be visible in the document window, and the filter effect will disappear.
Step 4
If you turn off a layer that has the Clipping Mask option applied, that layer will disappear from the document window. If you hide an object that lies below this layer, the object itself and the layer above it disappear.
Step 5
To completely turn off grouped layers, just click on the visibility icon located to the left of the group. However, Photoshop allows you to selectively turn off layers within a group. To take advantage of this opportunity, expand the group by clicking on the arrow icon and turn off the required layers. If you try to make one of the layers of a disabled group visible, all its constituent images will be turned on.
Step 6
The background in a single-layer file cannot be turned off without transforming the image. By turning the background image into a layer using the Layer from Background option in the New group of the Layer menu, you will be able to do whatever you want with this image. After creating a copy of the background layer using the Ctrl + J combination, the background will also become available for turning off.
