There are situations when you need to urgently format your hard drive. For example, if your computer is infected with viruses, the operating system refuses to boot. Then the best way out of the situation would be to clean the hard drive and reinstall the OS. This procedure can be started from the BIOS menu of the computer.

boot disk with Windows 7 operating system

Instructions

Step 1

To clean the hard drive, you can use a recovery disc or a bootable disc with any operating system. It is better to consider this procedure using an OS boot disk, since after cleaning the hard drive, the old operating system will be deleted. And using the boot disk, you can immediately continue installing the new OS.

Step 2

As an example, we will take a bootable disk with Windows 7. Insert it into the optical drive of your PC. Reboot your computer. Immediately after starting the PC, press the DEL key on the initial screen. The BIOS menu should open. If this does not happen, then your motherboard uses a different key to enter the BIOS. See the instructions for the motherboard.

Step 3

Find the BOOT section in the BIOS. In this section, select the 1st Boot Device option, then your optical drive. Exit BIOS. Save your settings when you exit. The computer will reboot and the system will start from the boot disk.

Step 4

Wait for the initial screen to appear and click Next. Accept the license agreement. Then select "Full Installation". A list of hard disk partitions will appear in the next window. To clear any of the partitions, usually only the system partition is cleared, select it with the left mouse click. At the bottom of the window, select "Disk Setup", and then - "Format". After a few seconds, the disk will be cleaned up. Please note: before proceeding, you need to be sure to format the system drive.

Step 5

After clearing the necessary partitions, select the system drive and click "Next". The installation of the operating system begins. The further process is almost completely automatic. You only have to choose some settings. After the installation is complete, assign your hard drive in the 1st Boot Device parameter.
