Logs are special system files into which the program records certain events. Most often they are available in unencrypted form and are opened using standard tools.

How to decrypt logs
How to decrypt logs

It is necessary

  • - access to the Internet;
  • - the "Notepad" program.

Instructions

Step 1

Find the log file of the program you want to decrypt. They are usually found in the program directory in Program Files, Application Data, and even in user documents. If you don't have hidden items visible, set their visibility in the Folder Options menu on the View tab.

Step 2

Uncheck the box next to "Hide extension for registered file types" and apply the changes. If you cannot find the log file, it is quite possible that it is hidden in the system. To do this, in the same folder properties menu, change the corresponding parameter at the end of the list on the "View" tab.

Step 3

When you find a file with a.log extension, take your time to open it, first look at its size. If it is less than one megabyte, open it with a text editor "Notepad".

Step 4

If its size is as close as possible to one or even exceeds 1 MB, use Word Pad, Open Office Word or Microsoft Word. Often, log files contain ordinary unencrypted text, which can have different dates, history of messages or statuses, system records of program states and their changes, and so on.

Step 5

If your log file still contains encrypted information. Use third party software. Also, for some programs separately there are utilities specially designed for decrypting logs, search for them on the Internet on thematic sites.

Step 6

When opening log files, sometimes you can use a different encoding, for example, open through MS Office Word, select an alternative to the proposed option, and so on several times until the optimal one is found. Find out in advance the encoding of the logs in the discussions of the program on special sites and forums.
