According to the rules of the Russian language, there are a number of situations that require the spelling of words or whole sentences using capital letters. When printing to a computer, this is usually done using the Caps Lock key. How do I use it?

The Caps Lock key is a handy tool that can be used when the user needs to write one or more letters or even an entire text in capital (uppercase) letters. It should be borne in mind that pressing this key will change the appearance of only the letters being dialed: for example, numbers and other special characters will not change from using it.

Using the Caps Lock Key

The Caps Lock key on a standard keyboard has a fairly convenient location: it is located in the middle of the left row of the main part of the keyboard, located between the Tab key, the letter A in the Latin layout and the Shift key. Turning on the Caps Lock key allows you to switch to the use of writing mode in capital (uppercase) letters on a permanent basis. The transition to this mode is carried out by a single press of the Caps Lock key. In turn, in order to disable this mode, you must once again press the specified button on the keyboard. In order to inform the user about the activation of the mode, on standard keyboards there is a special indication of this key: if it is pressed, a green indicator, indicated by the capital letter A, lights up above the digital block on the right side of the printing device, which goes out when the corresponding mode is turned off.

Additional key usage options

Thus, the mode that turns on when you press the Caps Lock key is convenient if you need to type several words or even an entire text in capital (uppercase) letters. If you need to capitalize one or more letters, you can resort to another method: for example, holding the adjacent Shift key while pressing a key with a letter designation will automatically make it capital (uppercase). Some users find this method more convenient, since it actually requires only one press of an additional key to convert one letter to capital case, while the Caps Lock mode must first be turned on and then turned off, that is, use a double click.

This technique, however, can be used in the opposite way. For example, you are typing text in capital letters with the Caps Lock key on, and you need to lowercase one or more letters. In this case, while pressing the desired letters, hold down the Shift key: it will temporarily switch the case to lowercase letters, and after you release it, the Caps Lock mode will again become permanent. Remember to turn it off after you finish typing the text in capital letters.
