Step 1
In some cases, it happens that when you reinstall the system from the installation disk, the previous version is not overwritten. Thus, you have several lines in the boot sector, but only one of them is working. Agree that it makes no sense to look through the list of systems every time you boot your computer and choose if this can be avoided.
Step 2
To do this, you will need to remember which version of the system is on this list. You need to edit the system file boot.ini, which is located in the root of the C drive. By default, the hidden files view mode is disabled on Windows platforms. Open any directory in "Explorer", select the top menu "Tools", then click on the line "Folder Options".
Step 3
In the window that opens, you should be interested in the content on the "View" tab. Go to the "Advanced settings" block and uncheck the box next to "Hide protected system files". Opposite the "Hidden files and folders" section, select the "Show …" line. To save changes to the system display settings, click the "Apply" and "OK" buttons.
Step 4
Now go to the root of the system disk, find the boot.ini file and open its properties by right-clicking and selecting the item of the same name from the context menu. Then go to the "General" tab and uncheck the "Read only" option - this will allow you to edit this file and then save it.
Step 5
Make a copy of the file with a different name, such as boot_copy.ini or boot_1. A copy of the file is created for every fireman. If you delete the wrong line from this file, you will not be able to boot if you wanted to, and by restoring the file from the copy, the task is doable.
Step 6
Now open the original file and delete all lines in a text editor except for the one you needed to remember, i.e. is bootable. It remains only to save the file, close all applications in use and reboot to see the results of the work.
Step 7
If the course of events is positive during computer startup, the boot manager should not appear on the screen, otherwise the operation should be repeated.
