Piracy is the scourge of the gaming industry, because it is because of the unlicensed distribution of games that developers lose a huge percentage of their deserved profit. One of the basic methods of dealing with it is the introduction of a mandatory system of user activation and authorization into the game.

Step 1
Run the appropriate software. This rule directly applies to games downloaded on the Internet - however, ordinary DVD publications often use a similar authorization principle. There are two monopolists in gaming services: Microsoft with their Games for windows and Valve with Steam. Gamer authorization in these programs a priori means authorization in the game, no additional actions need to be taken: any operations related to official servers will be available automatically.
Step 2
Internet activation is often used in games. An example of this is EA, which complicates their security systems so much that they sometimes require a constant Internet connection. However, the user does not have any difficulties with authorization: immediately after starting the game, a special menu of the protection system appears, which will automatically check the product for licensing and authorize the user on the official server. Next, the game itself and the user are launched, exactly the same? as in the previous paragraph, it has access to all functions of the game.
Step 3
Authorization can go through the official website. This is typical for small indie projects of little-known studios: after downloading the client, the player will need to go to the official website and register there. Subsequently, for authorization inside the game, you will enter the data that you indicated on the site. A similar system can be found in MMO games such as Need For Speed: World.
Step 4
Local authorization takes place through the in-game menu. To distinguish between different gaming sessions (for example, if you and one of your relatives play at different times)? the developers are introducing a system of profiles into the game. Switching between them is local user authorization. When you first start, you will be automatically prompted to create a profile, which will subsequently be used as the default.
