Working on a computer starts from the desktop. It is convenient when all the necessary icons are immediately at hand, and there is no need to open many folders and subfolders in search of the desired file. To organize your desktop and transfer the icons you need to it, you need to perform several steps.

Instructions

Step 1

Often during the installation of a program on a computer, the "Setup Wizard" prompts the user to create a shortcut to the startup file on the desktop. If this is your case, mark the appropriate box with a marker and continue the installation process until complete. However, this does not always happen.

Step 2

In order to independently create a shortcut on the desktop, go to the directory with the installed program, file or folder. Find the file (folder) you need and right-click on its icon. The context menu will expand. Select the item "Send" and the sub-item "Desktop (create a shortcut)" by clicking on it with the left mouse button. Nothing else is required, the corresponding icon will be placed on the desktop.

Step 3

For some files, the "Send" command may not be available in the context menu. In this case, select "Create shortcut" from the drop-down menu. If the shortcut cannot be placed in the same folder as the original file, the system will prompt you to transfer it to your desktop. Answer in the affirmative in the request window.

Step 4

In other cases of using the "Create Shortcut" command, this shortcut appears in the same folder as the original file. Right-click on the shortcut and select the "Cut" command from the context menu, it will be moved to the clipboard. Go to your desktop, right-click in any free space and select the "Paste" command from the drop-down menu.

Step 5

Also, don't forget about the Quick Launch Bar. It is located to the right of the "Start" button. In order to place icons there, left-click on the shortcut (group of shortcuts) and, while holding it down, drag the shortcuts down to the quick launch bar. Release the mouse button.
