Each of the modifications of the Windows operating system has a mechanism for adjusting the size of the icons on the desktop. Even in the operating system "Windows 7 Starter", having cut to a minimum the possibility of changing the appearance of the desktop, manufacturers have left this option.
Instructions
Step 1
In Windows 7 and Windows Vista, the steps are straightforward. First, click the mouse somewhere on the desktop - this is necessary in order to be sure that the system switched its attention ("shifted focus") to the desktop, and does not follow the program that you were working with before (for example, with a browser).

And then press the CTRL key and, without releasing it, rotate the mouse wheel. With the default settings, turning the wheel away from you will increase the size of the icons on the desktop, and turning towards you will decrease it.

In addition to this option, there is another - right-click on the space of the desktop free of icons. In the menu that appears (it is called "contextual"), move the cursor to the topmost line - "View". A subsection of this context menu item will open, in which you will have the opportunity to choose one of three preset icon sizes (large, regular, small).

In Windows XP, customizing the desktop icons in a similar manner would require much more manipulation. First, right-click on the icon-free space on the desktop. In the context menu, select the bottom item - "Properties". This will open the display properties window.
Step 5
In the properties window go to the "Appearance" tab and click the "Advanced" button. As a result, the corresponding window with the title "Additional design" will open.
Step 6
In this window, open the drop-down list "Element" and select the line "Icon" in it. After that, changing the numbers in the "Size" window, you can change the size of the desktop icons. In this box, the dimensions are indicated in pixels. In addition, the line below you can set the type and size of the font of the captions for the icons.

After specifying the required dimensions, click the "OK" buttons in both windows - "Additional appearance" and "Properties: Display".
