The Windows operating system is most often distributed on optical discs and each CD or DVD distribution released by the manufacturer is assigned a personal code. It usually consists of four groups of characters (numbers or letters). In Russian translation, such an identifier for each instance of the operating system is usually called the "product code".

Step 1
The easiest way to find out the identification code of your Windows distribution is from the sticker on the envelope with the optical disc - it is printed on it along with the barcode. Sometimes it is applied not to the envelope, but to the CD or DVD media itself, and sometimes it is duplicated in both ways.
Step 2
Use the standard information component of the Windows Control Panel if the original installation disc is not available. The easiest way to launch this component is by pressing the Win and Pause shortcut keys, but you can also use the context menu invoked by right-clicking on the "Computer" icon on the desktop. In this menu, select the very bottom line - "Properties". The same menu pops up when you right-click on the "Computer" item in the main menu of the operating system.
Step 3
Scroll down the window that opens to see the lower part of the right margin - at the very bottom there is a section called "Windows Activation". In the second line of this section, you can read the product code.
Step 4
The popular AIDA64 application is often installed on computers, which collects information about the hardware and software of the system scattered across various Windows components into convenient blocks. If you have the opportunity to use it, expand the "Operating system" section, and in it a subsection with exactly the same name. In the right pane, find the "License Information" section and the "Product ID" field in it. The code from this field can be copied and used further at your discretion. The line below in this section contains the license key for your version of Windows.
Step 5
Download the ProduKey application from Nir Sofer from the manufacturer's website if you need to find out the operating system code, provided that there is no way to start the OS itself. This application can extract the necessary data from the system folder of an inactive version of Windows, even if it is located on another computer on the local network or on removable media. The program can read identifiers not only from Microsoft Windows, but also from Microsoft Office or Adobe software products.
