The error when, when installing Windows XP, the installer cannot find hard drives on the laptop, in most cases it is caused by the lack of the necessary SATA drivers. The error can be corrected by the user himself.

Step 1
This problem is typical for notebooks with SATA hard drives. The business is that, unlike Windows Vista and 7, the XP distribution does not contain SATA drivers and because of this it simply does not see hard drives. One solution to this problem is to use BIOS mode.
Step 2
To do this, restart the laptop and use the F2 function key when turning it on. Next, you need to change the IDE compatibility mode settings or disable the AHCI mode in the SATA controller settings. The choice of a specific action depends on the laptop model. The options are:
- SATA Native Mode - select the Disable option;
- AHCI Mode - specify the Disable command;
- SATA Operation - select the ATA option;
- Configure SATA as - specify the IDE item;
- SATA Controller Mode - select the Compatibility option.
This action should cause the hard drive to be recognized by Windows XP Installer.
Step 3
If this still does not happen, you will need to create an OS distribution kit yourself. To do this, transfer the contents of the boot disk to a separate folder on your computer and download and install the specialized nLite application. Also download special SATA drivers from the official website of the laptop manufacturer or use the universal Intel Matrix Storage Manager kit.
Step 4
Call the context menu of the loaded executable file by clicking the right mouse button and select the "Create shortcut" command. Add parameters
-a -a -p c: drivers
at the end of the "Object" line of the created shortcut and confirm the execution of the selected action by clicking the "Apply" button. Run the nLite application b specify the path to the folder with the OS installer files.
Step 5
Apply the check boxes in the "Bootable ISO Image" and "Drivers" lines. Use the "Add" button to specify the path to the folder with the extracted drivers and select the required one. Confirm your selection of the integration option and select the "Create ISO" command. Save the created image and transfer it to disk.
