Safe Mode refers to a boot option for the Windows operating system that runs only the core files, minimal OS services, and basic drivers required for the computer to function.
Instructions
Step 1
Disconnect all USB devices, floppy disks, CDs and DVDs and restart the system. Exit all programs and power off the computer. Turn on the computer again after waiting thirty seconds.
Step 2
If your computer is running a single XP, Vista, or 7 operating system, press the F8 function key several times while turning on the computer. Wait for the Advanced Boot Options window to appear.
Step 3
If there are multiple installed operating systems, wait for the OS selection menu to start and select the required version using the arrow keys. Confirm your selection by pressing the Enter function key and immediately after that press the F8 key. Wait for the Advanced Boot Options window to appear.
Step 4
Select Safe Mode using the arrow keys on your keyboard and confirm the selected action by pressing the Enter function key.
Step 5
In some cases, it is possible to block the above download methods by virus programs. Use an alternative download method. To do this, in Windows XP, call the main system menu by clicking the "Start" button, and go to the "Run" dialog. Type msconfig in the "Open" line and confirm the launch of the utility by clicking the OK button.
Step 6
Go to the BOOT. INI tab and apply the check box in the / SAFEBOOT line of the Boot Options section. Confirm the saving of the changes made by clicking OK and restart the system (for Windows XP).
Step 7
In Windows version 7, open the main Start menu and type msconfig in the text box of the search bar. Confirm the selected action by pressing the softkey labeled Enter.
Step 8
Go to the Boot tab and apply the check box in the Safe Mode row under Boot Options. Confirm the saving of the changes made by clicking OK and restart the system (for Windows 7).
