Quite often, if the computer does not boot in normal mode, then it can be started in safe mode, but sometimes users, especially beginners, do not know how to work with it and why this mode is needed at all.
What is Safe Mode and what is it for
Safe mode in essence is a mode in which the user can diagnose some kind of malfunction and fix all found problems that may be caused by the incorrect operation of some programs or even the hardware of a personal computer. It is worth noting that there are several types of safe mode, for example, with support for network drivers. In this mode, only the initial settings of the Windows operating system will be used, that is, without installed drivers, except for the most important ones (for example, for starting Windows, a mouse or keyboard driver, a video adapter, as well as some system services).
Basically, safe mode is used to troubleshoot problems related specifically to the software part of the computer. For example, if the computer starts working badly or incorrectly and responds to user requests after installing some specific software or setting it up. In this mode, the user can either directly find the problem itself and fix it, or uninstall the software, which in this case is the cause of the failure.
Starting the OS in Safe Mode
To start the computer in safe mode, you need to: restart it and press the F8 key even before the Windows startup screen appears. In some cases, the Boot Device window may appear, where you need to select the hard disk on which the operating system directly used is installed, confirm your choice with the Enter button and press F8 again. After that, a special window will appear, allowing the user to select additional options for loading the operating system. Here the user can choose: troubleshoot the computer, where a list of tools will appear that can help avoid problems when starting up and using the system.
Safe Mode - the operating system will boot only with a set of essential services and drivers. It is mainly used when it is impossible to boot the OS after installing a new device or driver. Safe mode with loading network drivers - a special mode is loaded that will support the main I / O information drivers, as well as network drivers. Safe mode with command line support - starts the operating system with the main drivers and then starts the command line. Last Known Good Configuration - Start the operating system with its last known good configuration. Normal Windows boot - starts the operating system with the usual parameters and settings.
To switch to safe mode, you need to select it directly (or safe mode, with some additional capabilities (network or command line support)) using the Enter key on the computer. After starting, the OS will have a black desktop background, in the corners of which is the inscription "Safe Mode".
