Instructions

Step 1

One of the popular applications for converting text files into java-books is the free program in Russian Tequila Cat. You can download it on the official website of the developers at www.tequilacat.org. After downloading the application to your computer (no installation required), you can start converting the e-book.

Step 2

Run the Shell.exe file to start working with the program. The main application window will open in front of you, where from the menu on the left you can choose the type, size and color of the font, specify the background color and make other settings. To do this, it is enough to specify the required values in the appropriate fields.

Step 3

After making the initial settings, you can add a text file by setting the MIDP 1.0 value in the "Select phone model" section. The program works with txt files, and if the book is written in any other format, copy the text and save it using the standard Windows Notepad application in txt format.

Step 4

From the "Books" menu, select the "Add Book" command and specify the path to the previously prepared txt file. The name of the text file will appear in the "JAR file name" and "Phone book name" fields. If it is written in Russian, change it using Latin letters. Add "_1" to the file name to get a MIDlet (application) for phones with MIDP 1.0 profile.

Step 5

Press the button to start the conversion process from the program menu. The MIDlet will be created and placed in the folder with the original text file. Opening this directory, you will find two ready-to-use files with the * jar and * jad extensions. You can download them to your phone and start reading.

Step 6

To get an e-book in jar format for phones working with the MIDP 2.0 profile, from the main menu of the program, set the value MIDP 2.0 in the settings of the phone model. Since the source file is already selected, you only need to change the last two characters in the file name: instead of "_1" enter "_2".

Step 7

Click on the phone and book icon in the lower right corner of the program to create a MIDP for the MIDP 2.0 profile. Two more files will appear in the folder with the original file: "[book name] _2.jad" and "[book name] _2.jar". To read a book from a mobile device, they must be copied to the phone.
