All files containing information that can be interpreted as words of any national language can be referred to as text files. The data in these files may contain additional information related to the visual presentation of the text. The format for recording additional data differs depending on the standards used by the programs when saving these files. To make it possible to read files using a different application from the one used to create the text file, it may be necessary to translate the text record from one format to another.
Instructions
Step 1
Determine which application can open the text file whose format you want to change. The file format is determined by the extension in its name - by that part of its name, which is written after the last period. As a rule, the operating system itself determines by this extension which of the installed applications you need to launch and transfer the file to it, so you will hardly need to select the program yourself. If, nevertheless, the OS cannot determine the editor to which you need to transfer the file you are interested in, then the easiest way is to try loading it into one of your existing text editors - start with Microsoft Word.
Step 2
Use the capabilities of the text editor in which you opened the file - most of them can save text files in several formats, and sometimes in several dozen formats. After loading the file, for example in Word, call its standard dialog for saving the document. This can be done through the main menu: press the alt key, then the down arrow, in the drop-down menu, select the "Save as" section, and in it - the "Other formats" item. In the opened save dialog open the drop-down list "File type" and select the format you need, and then click the "Save" button. If you use other text editors, the procedure for saving in a different format may be slightly different.
Step 3
Choose a converter program if the capabilities of a word processor are not enough to save the file you need in another text format. As a rule, such converters are not universal, but are designed to convert text formats only to one specific format. For example, the direction of conversion of the Docx2Rtf program is directly indicated in its name. Some of these programs can also be found working as online services - for example, at https://doc2pdf.net/PDF2Word hosted a PDF to DOC file converter.
