The Microsoft Windows XP operating system has a built-in function of informing the user about changes, errors and current states. This feature plays an important role in keeping your computer secure, but it can be annoying. Disabling messages is performed using standard system tools and does not require hacking skills.
Instructions
Step 1
Click the "Start" button to bring up the main menu of the system and go to the "Control Panel" item to turn off messages about invalid program errors.
Step 2
Expand the System and Performance link and go to the Advanced tab of the new dialog box that opens.
Step 3
Select the "Error Reporting" section and apply the check box next to "Disable Error Reporting". This action will prevent the appearance of messages about sending reports to Microsoft, which do not carry any useful information to the user.
Step 4
Check the box next to "Notify about critical errors" for security reasons and to be able to react immediately to serious problems, and click OK to confirm the selected changes are applied.
Step 5
Return to the main "Start" menu and go to "Network Neighborhood" to disable messages about "initializing folders" that appears when you try to save files in one of the Microsoft Office programs to a network drive. These messages may remain on the computer screen for a long time and will not succumb to attempts to close them.
Step 6
Select the network drive to connect to and press the softkey labeled Delete.
Step 7
Click the "Yes" button in the confirmation window for the selected command to apply the changes.
Step 8
Return to the main Start menu to turn off the low disk space messages.
Step 9
Go to Run to run the command line tool.
Step 10
Enter regedit.exe in the Open field and click OK to launch the Registry Editor utility.
Step 11
Expand the HKEY_CURRENT_USERSoftwareMicrosoftWindowsCurrentVersionPoliciesExplorerNoLowDiskSpaceChecks registry key and enter a value for the NoLowDiskSpaceChecks parameter = 1.
Step 12
Press the softkey labeled Enter to apply the selected changes.
