The task of deleting the trash can be solved by the user without involving additional software. Standard system tools allow you to perform this operation in all versions of the Windows operating system, albeit using different methods.
Instructions
Step 1
Call the desktop context menu by clicking the right mouse button and select the "Properties" item. Expand the "Display" link and go to the "Desktop" tab of the dialog box that opens. Click the Customize Desktop button and uncheck the box next to Display Trash.
Step 2
Call the main menu of the Windows XP version by clicking the "Start" button and go to the "Run" dialog. Type gpedit.msc in the "Open" line and confirm the launch of the Group Policy Editor utility by clicking OK. Expand the User Configuration link and find the Administrative Templates section. Expand the "Desktop" node and mark the checkbox in the line "Remove the trash can icon from the desktop" (for Windows XP Pro version).
Step 3
Use the universal method to delete the trash can in all versions of Windows XP. To do this, return to the main system menu "Start" and again go to the "Run" dialog. Type regedit on the Open line and confirm the launch of the Registry Editor tool by clicking OK. Expand the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESoftwareMicrosoftWindowsCurrentVersionExplorerDesktopNameSpace645FF040-5081-101B-9F08-00AA002F954E branch and remove the last parameter.
Step 4
Another method is to create a DWORD string value 1 in the same section. Save the changes and exit the Registry Editor.
Step 5
In Windows Vista, there is an option to remove the trash can from the context menu. To do this, call this basket context menu by clicking the right mouse button and select the "Delete basket" command.

Please note that all these actions remove the trash can icon. The recycle bin itself is still present on all disks on the computer and, by default, reserves 10 percent of the disk space for itself.
