Quite often, personal computer users work with various USB drives and sometimes, they can be write-protected. But, unfortunately, not everyone understands why this is needed.
Perhaps it is known that USB sticks are devices that can catch a virus very quickly and easily. This malicious software, in turn, is most often spread in this way and can harm not only the flash drive itself, but also the computer, if you do not have time to take certain measures in time. Protecting a USB flash drive from writing is the most common way to ensure security.
Why write protection?
Very often, malicious software of this kind acts in the following way: after the virus enters the medium, it finds one or more files (folders), which it replaces with itself. Naturally, the user may not immediately detect such a problem and open such a file, after which the computer on which this happened becomes infected with a virus. Write protection of a flash drive allows you to protect yourself from such viruses, but it is worth remembering that with this option enabled, the user will not be able to write any files to the USB flash drive until it is disabled.
How to set write protection on a USB flash drive?
In order to protect your flash drive from such a fate and to set write protection, the user does not even need any special software. Everything can be done with your own hands quite quickly and easily. To install protection, you first need to install the USB drive that you are going to protect into your computer. After that, open "My Computer", move the mouse cursor to the image of the shortcut of the flash drive and right-click on it. When the context menu appears, you need to select the "Properties" item and in the window go to the "Security" tab.
Most likely you will see that you are allowed absolutely all actions that can be performed with a USB flash drive (writing, reading, editing, etc.). It is required to click on the "Change" button, which is located opposite the item "To change the permissions, click on the" Change "button. After a new window appears, you need to check the "Deny" option opposite the "Record" item. After that, no one will be able to modify, add or edit files stored on the USB flash drive. It is worth noting that to disable this function, the user will need the same computer where write protection was enabled. In all other respects, the procedure is no different, except that you will need to check the box opposite the "Allow" item.
