A video card is a device containing a specialized graphics processor and a set of microcircuits serving it, which is responsible for forming and displaying an image on the monitor screen and on external devices connected to the computer. The vast majority of motherboards today have integrated graphics adapters, but a separate video card is still used to work with applications that place high demands on image processing speed.

Instructions

Step 1

Shut down the OS and turn off the power switch on the back of the system unit. If your computer's power supply does not have such a switch, disconnect the network cable.

Step 2

Place the system unit so that you have easy access to the left (front side) panel. If this requires you to disconnect other wires on the rear panel, do so.

Step 3

Remove the left panel of the system unit. In most case designs, this requires unscrewing two screws on the rear panel and sliding it back a little.

Step 4

Remove the old video card. To do this, you need to unscrew one screw that connects it to the back panel of the computer case, and then pull it out of the slot on the system board.

Step 5

Insert a new video card into the vacated slot and fasten the panel with external connectors on the back of the system unit with a screw.

Step 6

Replace the left panel of the computer case, secure it with screws, and reconnect all cables on the back panel. Connect the power cable last.

Step 7

Turn on the power key on the back, and then start the computer. After loading the operating system, insert the optical disc into the reader containing the video driver, which should be present in the shipping box.

Step 8

If you do not have such a disc, the necessary software can be downloaded from the video card manufacturer's website. From the disc menu, select the option to install the driver, and then follow the instructions in the installation wizard. After the end of its work, the computer will most likely need to be restarted, and this will complete the installation of the new video card.
