Windows Defender is a tool to protect the Windows Vista operating system from spyware and potentially unsafe software. Windows Defender helps you avoid unwanted ads, unauthorized access to confidential information stored on your computer, and potential remote control of your computer's system.
Instructions
Step 1
Click the "Start" button to enter the main menu of the system and go to the "Control Panel" item.
Step 2
Select Security and open Windows Defender. By default, Windows Defender does not require special activation and is automatically loaded with the operating system. An automatic system check is carried out regularly at 2 am (time can be changed).
Step 3
Check the date of the last system scan and its results.
Step 4
Click the "Check for Updates" button to update the virus definitions.
Step 5
Click the Scan button to scan your computer system for spyware and malware. Keep in mind that Quick Scan scans only those areas of your hard drive where malware and applications open at the time of the scan are most likely. The "Full Scan" command scans all files on the hard disk, and the "Custom Scan" allows the user to specify the folders to be scanned.
Step 6
Click the Log button in the Windows Defender application bar for complete information on all actions taken by the program.

Click the Programs button to access advanced customization options for Windows Defender.
Step 8
Select the checkbox "Automatically check my computer (recommended)" in the "Options" section and select the desired values in the "Frequency", "Estimated time" and "Type" fields from the suggested ones.
Step 9
Select Microsoft SpyNet to join the community and share information on blocked applications.
Step 10
Select the "Quarantined objects" section to view information about the programs in the quarantine zone and make decisions about removing (or restoring) these programs.
Step 11
Select the "Software Explorer" section to view information about the applications included in startup and running at the time of testing. Use the "Remove" button to completely remove the selected program from the startup list. Use the "Disable" button to exclude the selected program from the startup list.
Step 12
Select the Allowed Objects section to view and edit the list of programs excluded from Windows Defender Spotlight.
Step 13
Select the Windows Defender Web site to go to the Windows Defender Web site.
