Instructions

Step 1

Before starting work, make sure that the load you intend to supply is rated for one of the following voltages: 3.3V, 5V or 12V. AT units do not have the first of these voltages. Also, the load should not be sensitive to interference arising from the operation of pulse converters, and should not consume more current than that for which the source is designed.

Step 2

Load the 5-volt circuit at least a little, otherwise all other output voltages may be overestimated. A 12-volt light bulb with a power of about 3 watts is well suited for this - when supplied with a voltage of 5 V, it will work at a reduced power. Connect it between the red and black wires. Very old units require much more constant load - without it they fail.

Step 3

The AT unit requires direct switching of the mains voltage with a two-pole switch supplied with it. Usually it is already connected - check the correctness of its connection according to the diagram indicated on the source body. If the switch is not connected, connect it in the same way. Please note that incorrect connection threatens to close the supply network. Despite the presence of insulating tubes, additionally wrap the switch with electrical tape.

Step 4

The ATX power supply is equipped with a special low power standby power converter. It generates only one voltage equal to 5 V, with a load current of up to 0.5 A. This voltage is present on the lilac wire even when the unit is in standby mode. To turn on the power supply, use the other wire - green. Short it to black, and the unit will start generating the rest of the voltages. If there is even no standby power supply voltage, turn on the unit with a general switch located directly on its body.

Step 5

Remove the voltages for powering the loads from the wires of the following colors: 3.3 V - orange, 5 V - red, 12 V - yellow. The common wire is black. Do not allow more than 10 A of current to pass through the same conductor. Note that the 3.3V output is not short-circuit protected.

Step 6

If the standby power voltage even slightly increased relative to the nominal, send the unit for repair. Do not repair it yourself if you have no experience with high voltage devices.
