With prolonged use of the laptop, sometimes the hard drive starts to work much slower than immediately after purchase. Programs start starting only a few seconds after starting. Movies also do not start immediately. Waiting even for a few seconds is pretty boring. In such cases, disk defragmentation will help. After this procedure, the hard drive will run significantly faster.

Instructions

Step 1

Place all files on your computer into folders before starting defragmentation. It is important that all files are decomposed into the appropriate types. ("Videos" folder with movies, clips and other video files; "Music" folder with music tracks, etc.). In each main folder, you can create several more folders as you like, but the file types must be the same. For example, the "Music" folder will be the main folder for music tracks, and in it you can create more folders, for example, "techno", "rock", etc.

Step 2

Click Start. Select the All Programs tab. Find the "System Tools" tab in the list of all programs. Select Disk Defragmenter from the list of utilities.

Step 3

The program menu will appear, which will display all hard drives that are connected to the laptop. First select the system drive where the Windows operating system is installed. In front of such a system drive, you will see the Microsoft icon. Click on the system disk with the right mouse button. Now, from the bottom of the program, select the "Disk Defragmenter" command. The disk defragmentation process will begin. Please note that the defragmentation speed depends on the power of the laptop, the type and capacity of the hard drive, and can be very long. During disk defragmentation, do not run any programs on the laptop, do not work on it.

Step 4

After defragmenting one drive, move on to the next. In this way, defragment absolutely all disks.

Step 5

Now set up automatic disk defragmentation. Click on the "Configure Schedule" tab. The tab is in the top menu of the program. Four options will appear. For Frequency, select Weekly. In the second tab, select the day when the defragmentation will occur. It is important to choose the day of the week when you usually actively use your laptop. Then select the time in the third tab. The timing is also best to choose when the laptop is most likely to be turned on. The fourth parameter is the disks for which you need to defragment. Select all drives.

Step 6

It is undesirable to use the laptop only when defragmenting for the first time or when defragmentation has not been performed for a long time. Subsequently, when the automatic defragmentation will be performed weekly, during this process you can safely work on your laptop.
