Many users have already given up on desktop computers in favor of more compact notebooks. To ensure a comfortable and convenient use of these devices, it is recommended to create your own wireless networks.
Necessary
Wi-Fi router (router)
Instructions
Step 1
In order to provide several devices at once with Internet access and communication with each other, it is recommended to use a Wi-Fi router. Select this equipment based on the specifications of your notebook wireless adapters. Also consider the type of internet connection (LAN or DSL).
Step 2
Install the Wi-Fi router in close proximity to one of the stationary computers or laptops. Connect the selected equipment to the router via the LAN (Ethernet) connector using a network cable.
Step 3
Connect the WAN (DSL) port of the Wi-Fi router with an internet cable. Connect the device to the mains. Turn on the computer (laptop) connected to the network equipment. Launch a web browser.
Step 4
Enter the IP address of the router into the address bar of an open program. You can find it in the user manual. Now enter the initial values of the login and password to gain access to the web-based interface of the network device settings.
Step 5
Open the WAN menu. Set up a connection to the provider's server. If this menu contains items such as Firewall, NAT, and DHCP, enable them by checking the appropriate boxes. Save the settings for this menu.
Step 6
Now open the Wi-Fi menu. Enter the parameters of the wireless hotspot that will suit your laptops. Pay special attention to those types of security, as not all laptop models support WPA and WPA2. Save the settings for this menu.
Step 7
If, when setting up the Internet, you did not have the opportunity to enable the DHCP and NAT functions, then open the additional local connection options (LVS). Activate the specified functions.
Step 8
Reboot your network equipment. Wait until it completes its connection to the provider's server. Connect desktop computers to LAN (Ethernet) channels, and connect laptops to a wireless network.
