Formatting your phone's removable memory cards allows you to expand the capacity to record more music, pictures and videos. Also removable memory cards can even serve as an alternative place to store your contacts and address book. You should know how to format your memory card to make it ready for efficient use.
Instructions
Step 1
Turn off your phone. Remove its back panel and insert the memory card into the appropriate slot. Replace the back cover.
Step 2
Turn on the phone, go to the menu for setting its parameters. You will need to find a menu that includes technical settings, and where Media Card or "Memory Card" should be indicated as a separate item. If your phone has a separate menu for memory settings, go into it and find the desired section.
Step 3
Access the memory card settings and click the "Options" button. Make sure the device recognizes the inserted card. Then select the "Format" function. It is usually located in the list of actions, or you may need to go to a separate menu to work with the memory card and make this function available.
Step 4
Choose the type of formatting - fast or full. You will be able to choose between formatting the memory card and / or the internal memory of the device. Select "Media Card" unless otherwise required. Be aware that you will lose all data stored on your card.
Step 5
Confirm the phone's request to allow formatting. Select "OK". The automatic formatting of the phone's memory card will begin, and a special indicator will indicate this process. Do not turn off the power or leave this screen. After formatting is complete, the phone will notify you of this and the indicator will no longer be visible. You may need to press the OK key to confirm to complete this process.
Step 6
Go to the phone's file manager. Check the disk system to make sure that any extra files are missing and formatted as expected. Some phones provide a rollback function to recover data lost due to accidental formatting.
