If the user has never worked with disk images, a file with the.iso extension that gets to the computer may puzzle him: what to do with this file, how to open it, and in general, why is it needed?
Instructions
Step 1
The.iso format is used to create exact copies from CDs and DVDs, which not only duplicate data from the original, but also contain system information: they "remember" file attributes, folder structure, headers, and so on. Iso files are also called disk images.
Step 2
It is very common to find computer games distributed in the.iso format. To read such a file, you need to install a special application on your PC for creating images and emulating virtual drives. These programs include Alcohol 120%, DAEMON Tools, but at the same time, the file can be opened with a simple archiver, for example, WinRAR or WinZIP.
Step 3
To use an iso file as a simple disk, you need to mount its image to a virtual drive. To do this, start one of the programs, for example, DAEMON Tools, and select the task from the Tools menu Add IDE Virtual Drive. Wait for the new virtual drive to be created.
Step 4
Right-click on the newly created disk and select Mount Image from the context menu. An additional window will open in which you must specify the path to the.iso file that is saved on your computer.
Step 5
When the disk image is mounted on the virtual drive, you can close the program. Open My Computer. You will see that another drive is added after all local and removable drives. Now you can work with it like any other disk, for example, browse folders or run the files you need.
Step 6
To remove such a virtual drive, start the program with which you created it again, and select the Remove IDE Virtual Drive command from the Tools menu, confirm your actions in the request window. The drive will be removed along with the disk image. If you need information from a new iso file, you can not delete the virtual drive, but simply mount a new disk image on it.
