Damage to archive files is not an uncommon and rather offensive phenomenon, especially when, due to damage to just one of the parts, it becomes impossible to unpack a multivolume array of files. RAR archives contain additional information that makes it possible to recover data damaged for any reason. The amount of this additional information for recovery can be adjusted, thus increasing the "survivability" of the archives.
Necessary
WinRAR archiver
Instructions
Step 1
Upload the damaged file to the archiver. This can be done through Windows Explorer or directly in the WinRAR archiver. If it is more convenient for you to use Explorer, open it by pressing the WIN + E keyboard shortcut or by double-clicking on the "My Computer" shortcut on the desktop. Then find the problematic file and double-click it. If it's easier for you to perform all operations in the archiver, then by launching it, you will see an interface similar to Explorer, in which you also need to find the damaged file and load it into the program by double-clicking.
Step 2
Expand the "Operations" section in the archiver menu and select the "Restore archive" item. You can replace this action by pressing the assigned hotkeys alt="Image" + R.
Step 3
Select the archive type (RAR or ZIP) by checking one of the two boxes when WinRAR displays a dialog box. This is necessary for the archiver to have an idea of the structure of the data record in the damaged file. The same window contains the "Folder for recording the restored archive" field. By default, this is the same directory as the damaged file. There is no reason to worry about this - the recovered file will have a different name (the prefix fixed or rebuilt will be added), so the original file will also be saved. If you nevertheless decide to change the storage location - click the "Browse" button and select the appropriate folder.
Step 4
Click the "OK" button to start the recovery procedure. The archiver will do everything necessary and present a report containing a list of files that have been extracted and packed into a new archive.
Step 5
Take care of adding recovery information even when creating archives. With the default settings, WinRAR increases the total archive size by 1% and fills this additional volume with backup data for recovery. For storing files that are especially important to you, it is better to increase this setting to about 5%. This can be done on the "Advanced" tab of the archiving settings, and on the "General" tab, make sure that there is a checkbox in the "Add information for recovery" checkbox.
