A hard disk, drive or just a hard drive is the main storage of user information. All files are stored in this device. And the speed of your computer as a whole very much depends on how fast your hard drive is. You can find out its speed, even if you do not have any documentation for PC components left.
Instructions
Step 1
Run a program to view Internet pages. Type https://www.hwinfo.com/ in the address bar. You will find yourself on the developer page of the free diagnostic utility HwINFO. The program is released in versions for 32- and 64-bit systems. If you are not sure which version of Windows you have installed, find the download link for HwINFO32, which works in all known types of operating systems.
Step 2
Click on the build number of the utility, which is just below the description of the application's capabilities. At the moment, the latest version is 3.93. Select a server to download and a form for the program: you can choose an archive or a self-extracting file. Depending on the speed of your connection, in a minute or ten minutes you will have a file with a utility. Other tools of this kind work in a similar way, for example, AIDA64, available for download at
Step 3
Open the folder where the program was saved. Find the required file named Hwinfo … and right click on it. Select the "Extract …" item from the menu and unzip it to any convenient location. Open the application folder and launch the main file - you will distinguish it by its name and colorful icon. A window with Run and Configure buttons will appear. Select the Run option and left click.
Step 4
Wait until the initial hardware test passes and two windows appear on the screen. One of them will be with the logos of the processor and video card manufacturer. It displays general information about the computer and you can immediately close it with the Close button in the lower right corner. And the second window consists of two halves: the left one lists the categories of devices, the right one contains detailed information about them.
Step 5
Click on the Drives category to expand a list of all drives on your computer. Click the plus sign next to the SATA / ATAPI Drives subcategory and you will see a detailed list of devices. The first in order is the hard disk, its name consists of a set of letters and numbers.
Step 6
Select this line with the mouse and on the right side of the window you will see the detailed characteristics of the device. The line of the form Media Rotation Rate: 7200 RPM shows the speed of the hard drive. The value can be different, there are quite a lot of drive options available. Other data on the speed of the hard disk are also displayed there.
