Step 1
A black and white image can be obtained directly by scanning color photographs. Open a graphics editor. In the drop-down menu "File" select the line "Import". Select the type of scanning device. The scanner interface will appear in front of you. Each device has its own, but each offers several modes. Black and white - at least two, "black and white" or "grayscale". The choice depends on the purpose of the scan. If you have text, blueprint, or two-color engraving, select black and white. For photography, grayscale is preferable because this option produces midtones. Save the image in the desired format.
Step 2
To convert a digital photo to black and white, open it directly in the editor. Let it be Adobe Photoshop. Go to the menu, find the item "Image". Select "Mode" from the drop-down menu. You will see a list of several names. Select "B & W" or "Grayscale" depending on the purpose. Keep in mind that in different versions of the program, the notation "black and white" can mean different types of processing.
Step 3
If you see the combination "Ч.-Б." and bitmap, the first one denotes shades of gray, and the second option gives only black and white colors. If in the drop-down menu you find modes under the names "black and white" and "grayscale", then the results of their application will exactly match what is written. When choosing shades of gray, the program will prompt you to remove information about the color. You need to agree with this.
Step 4
Adobe Photoshop is a paid license program. But there is a Gimp program that is distributed under free licensing terms. It does not require registration, and there are options for Windows and Linux. This program has the same capabilities as Adobe Photoshop, plus it has a similar interface. Some viewing programs also have the function of converting the image to black and white. For example, XnView and Irfan View. This software is also distributed as free software.
