Sometimes, when processing a photo, you need to make it black and white. The free graphic editor Paint.net successfully copes with this task.

Step 2

There is another way. In the same Adjustments menu, click the Hue and Saturation command or press Ctrl + Shift + U. Use the sliders to adjust the Saturation and Lightness settings until the photo is black and white.

Step 3

You can make black and white not the whole photo, but only part of it. Duplicate the image layer. To do this, click on the "Duplicate layer" icon in the layers panel or press Ctrl + Shift + D. On the bottom layer, uncheck the "Visibility" option.

Step 4

Activate the top layer (copy). On the toolbar, click Gradient. On the property bar, specify the type of gradient. It depends on your intention. If you want to keep a certain detail of the image colored, choose Radial. If the border between the black-and-white and color parts is a conditionally straight line, then "Linear" is more suitable.

Step 5

To the right of the group of gradient types is a box with a list of "Color" and "Transparency". Choose "Transparency" and extend a line from the target area in any direction. As a result, part of the photo will become invisible.

Step 6

Go to the bottom layer and turn on its visibility by checking the box. From the Adjustments menu, click Make Black & White or use the keyboard shortcuts. Your photo is now black and white, except for one colored area.
