Archiving movies stored in video format files in order to reduce their size is not advisable, since it gives a very small gain in volume - only a few percent. It makes sense to pack movies into archives when you need to put several movies in one file or if you need to split a video using a multivolume archive into several files for easy transportation via the Internet or on removable media.

Instructions

Step 1

Use the archiving program installed on your computer to archive one or more movies. If the computer does not have such an application, then it can be downloaded from the Internet. The most popular programs today are WinRAR, 7-ZIP, WinZIP, and their installation is not difficult. During installation, archivers add additional options to the standard file manager, which makes its use even more convenient than archiving using the program itself.

Step 2

Launch Windows Explorer by using the Win + E keyboard shortcut or by selecting Computer from the main menu on the Start button. Navigate to the folder containing the movie file you want to zip and right-click on it. In the context menu that appears as a result of this action, select one of the items related to archiving. There will be several such points in it, and their exact wording depends on the archiver program installed in the system.

Step 3

Select the "Add to archive" line if the application installed on your computer is WinRAR, and the purpose of the archiving operation is to create a multivolume archive for transferring it in parts over the network or on removable media. In the window that opens, find the inscription "Divide into volumes in size (in bytes)". It is located in the lower left corner, and even lower there is the field itself, in which you need to enter the maximum size of each file of the multivolume archive being created. For example, so that each file is no more than one hundred megabytes, enter 100 m. Then click the "OK" button and the program will create a set of archive files in the same folder. A multivolume archive is unpacked in the same way as a regular one - right-click any of these files and select one of the items related to unpacking the archive - for example, "Extract to current folder".

Step 4

Drag and drop the next movie file onto the created archive file if you need to pack several movies into one archive.
