Despite the emergence of new versions of the OS, the Windows XP operating system is still one of the most popular and demanded. It is simple and convenient, has good performance. However, it can be further increased by disabling some services.
In the basic configuration, the Windows XP operating system is configured to provide the ability to solve the widest possible range of tasks. The average user does not need all of them, but many of the services that support them are started by default, which not only slows down the computer, but also negatively affects security. This is why many unused services should be disabled. To disable services in Windows XP, you need to open: "Start" - "Control Panel" - "Administrative Tools" - "Computer Management" - "Services and Applications" - "Services". A window will appear in front of you with a list of all services, and it will be indicated which of them are working and which are disabled. To disable the selected service, double-click it with the mouse, a new window will open. In it, click the "Stop" button, then select the "Disabled" startup type and click OK. The service is disabled and will no longer start automatically. You can disable the following services: "Remote Registry" - this service is simply dangerous, because it can be used to remotely change the computer's registry settings. "Wireless setting" - can be turned off if you are not using Wi-Fi. Remote Procedure Call (RPC) locator should also be disabled as this service can be exploited by some viruses. If you do not perform automatic Windows updates, it is worth disabling the corresponding service. It is also better to turn off the "Security Center" - in fact, this service only gets in the way, issuing useless warnings. If you are not using your computer to run any programs on a schedule, you should also disable Task Scheduler. You can also disable: Terminal Services, Messaging Service, Time Service, Server, Annunciator, Secondary Login, Telnet, Error Logging Service. Do not think that disabling these services will significantly increase the performance of your computer, we are talking about a few percent. Nevertheless, even a small increase in the speed of work is worth it. If you need a service later, you can always enable it.
