Standby and Hibernation for Windows computers are designed to reduce the power consumption of the device and save user data when there is a need for interruptions or power outages.
Instructions
Step 1
Make sure you understand the difference between the two functions: Standby puts the computer into a low power consumption mode, but does not turn off the computer. Therefore, when entering standby mode, you must save all the changes made, otherwise they will be lost in a power outage. Hibernation mode turns off the computer, while maintaining the existing state on the hard disk. Therefore, it is not necessary to save the changes made.
Step 2
Computer standby mode is enabled by default and is available to the user in the shutdown and shutdown menu, being one of three options: - restart; - shutdown; - standby mode.
Step 3
If hibernation was previously enabled on the computer, then to enable standby mode, you will need to open the desktop context menu by right-clicking on an empty space. Specify the "Properties" item and select the "Screensaver" tab in the opened dialog box. Click the Power button in the Power Saver section at the bottom of the window and click the Sleep tab in the next dialog box. Uncheck the box in the "Allow the use of hibernation" line of the "Hibernation" group and confirm the saving of the changes made by clicking the "Apply" button.
Step 4
Select the "Advanced" tab and select the "Switch to standby mode" option in the drop-down list of the "When you press the button to switch to sleep mode" section of the "Power buttons" section. Confirm the execution of the selected action by clicking the "Apply" button.
Step 5
An alternative method to enable Standby while Hibernation is enabled is to hover the mouse pointer over the Hibernate button on the Shutdown / Shutdown menu. Press the Shift softkey and wait for the button name to change to Standby.
