Having switched to Windows 7 from older versions of the operating system, the user sometimes encounters an unpleasant surprise - many programs that he is used to do not work on the new system. In this case, he has to look for versions that are compatible with Windows 7, or run the necessary programs in compatibility mode.
Instructions
Step 1
As a rule, users who have a 64-bit version of Windows 7 are faced with program compatibility problems. But owners of a 32-bit version may also have difficulties with running applications. For example, an antivirus designed for an older OS may refuse to work.
Step 2
First, try to find a newer version of the program you are looking for. Typically, manufacturers update applications to adapt them to new operating systems. If your antivirus stopped working, then you don't even have to buy a new license, the old key will work with the new version, which you can download for free on the manufacturer's website.
Step 3
New versions of other programs must also be looked for on the official websites of the companies that created them. If you could not find them there, look for the necessary programs on the open spaces of the network by entering a search query in Google or another search engine.
Step 4
When downloading programs on the Internet, always see information about which OS versions they work with. Usually the name of the operating system is written in abbreviated form - XP, Vista, 7. If the number 7 is in the description of the program, then this program is suitable for you.
Step 5
What if you can't find a program for Windows 7? In this case, try running an older OS application in compatibility mode. First, try using the troubleshooting wizard: click "Start" - "Control Panel". In the search box, enter "problems", then select "Troubleshoot." Find the "Programs" section and click on the line "Run programs designed for previous versions of Windows".
Step 6
If the previous option did not help, try the following: right-click on the shortcut or executable file of the program and select "Fix compatibility problems" in the context menu that opens. In the window that opens, select "Program diagnostics". In the new window, check the boxes on the necessary items, the choice depends on the behavior of the program. Click "Next" and in a new window indicate which version of Windows the program worked with normally. Click "Next" again, then "Run the program". If the application works fine, select the option to save the settings.
Step 7
Try changing the compatibility settings manually. Click the program shortcut or executable file with the right mouse button and select "Properties". Click the Compatibility tab. Install the "Run the program in compatibility mode" checkbox and select the OS with which the program worked earlier. Click OK.
