Creating a shared workbook, open for editing by several users, in Excel, included in the Microsoft Office suite, is a standard procedure that does not imply the involvement of additional software.

Instructions
Step 1
Open the main menu of the Windows operating system to initiate the procedure for creating a new or opening an existing Excel workbook for several users and go to the "All Programs" item. Expand Microsoft Office and start Excel. Create a new document or open the workbook to be accessed.
Step 2
Expand the Changes dialog and select Book Access on the Browse tab. Click the Edit tab and apply the check box next to Allow multiple users to edit this file at the same time. Use the Details tab to identify and update your changes and confirm your selection by clicking OK. Enter the desired name for the created document in the "File name" line or save the existing book by clicking OK. Expand the Microsoft Office menu and choose Save As. Specify the network resource intended for saving the document and available to the selected user in the folder "Folder" and use the "Save" button (for Windows XP) or select the desired network save location in the address bar and confirm your choice by clicking the "Save" button (for Windows Vista).
Step 3
Expand the Connections node and select the Data tab to edit the links you want. Click the Change Links button and select the Status option. Specify the action to be changed for each selected link and confirm the application of the changes by clicking OK. Note that the inability to display the Edit Links button demonstrates that there are no associated links.

Remember, Excel is not supported by default in a publicly shared Excel workbook:
- data tables and pivot table reports;
- structures;
- hyperlinks;
- data validation;
- merging of cells;
- conditional formats.
