In Windows there is a system for separating users with the assignment of each of them the rights to perform certain actions with certain files or settings of the system itself. Information about these rights, as well as personal OS settings, as well as personal files of each user are stored in his "profile" - a separate group of directories on the system disk of the operating system. You can delete the profile of an account that is no longer needed or damaged.
Instructions
Step 1
The operating system components contain only one way to delete a user profile - together with the destruction of his account. To use it, you need to have administrator rights, so when you boot your computer, you need to log in with the username and password of the user whose account belongs to the Administrators group. If you are currently using some other account, start by logging out and re-authorizing.
Step 2
Start the control panel - open the main OS menu and select the "Control Panel" item in it. If your system uses the "classic" view of the main menu, then look for this link in the "Settings" section.
Step 3
Find the link "User accounts" in the Panel and use it to open the window of the operating system element intended for manual creation and modification of users and their profiles. This window is divided into two areas - the upper one contains a list of typical tasks that are most often performed with accounts, and the lower one contains icons with links to existing users.
Step 4
Click the icon of the user whose account you want to destroy along with the profile, and then select the "Delete account" link in the list of tasks. The screen will ask you whether to save the desktop items and the My Documents folder included in this user's profile. Choose an affirmative answer.
Step 5
Another way to delete a profile without destroying the account involves manual "cleaning" of files on the system disk. Look for the set of directories that you need to erase in the Documents and Settings folder on the system drive - they should be placed in a directory with a name that repeats the username. For example, for the user Nikolai and the operating system installed on the C drive, you need to delete the folder located at C: Documents and SettingsNikolai.
