There are users who lack the capabilities of the standard settings of the Windows XP operating system. Meanwhile, there is a way to expand the customization options of this OS by editing the system registry. This will allow you to fine-tune the operating system parameters based on your needs, add or remove various functions and parameters, change the Windows XP interface.
Necessary
Computer running Windows XP operating system, Internet access, Klimov and Chebotarev's reference book
Instructions
Step 1
In order to start editing the registry, you need to run special software. Left-click in the taskbar in sequence "Start" - "All Programs" and go to the "Standard" tab. In standard programs, select the "Command Prompt" tab and type Regedit in it, and then press the Enter key.
Step 2
A window will open. Study it carefully. The window is divided into two halves. On the left side of it there are standard registry keys (folders), each of which has its own functions. To find out what each registry key is for, select the Help tab at the top of the window.
Step 3
If you click on the "+" sign next to a registry key, you will open additional subkeys. If you click on one of the subsections, different labels will appear in the other part of the window, which are the registry settings. To edit the registry, you will change exactly this data.
Step 4
To start editing the registry, select the registry key first, then the subkey. After that, in the right window, select the registry parameter that you want to edit, and double-click on it with the right mouse button.
Step 5
Now the question arises. How exactly to change the registry, what should be deleted and which characters should be entered? You can find out complete information about the registry parameters, symbol designations in the documentation for the operating system. If you do not have documentation, download the Klimov and Chebotarev handbook from the Internet. It contains detailed instructions for each registry parameter. You just need to find the parameter you want in the reference and read the instructions on how to change it. In addition, you will be able to avoid errors, since incorrect editing of the registry can disrupt the operation of the operating system.
