Necessary

Uninterruptible power supply unit, new version of BIOS firmware from the manufacturer's official website

Instructions

Step 1

We open the computer case and examine the motherboard. You need to find the BIOS chip on it. Often sellers stick it with a sticker-label. If the warranty period is over long ago, we remove the label and inspect the marking of the microcircuit.

Step 2

If there is no marking, you need to use special utilities to determine the version, for example, ctbios.exe. It will not only determine the motherboard BIOS model, but also indicate the firmware version and manufacturer's website.

Step 3

Download the new BIOS version from the motherboard manufacturer's website and save it to your computer. You should also download the already installed version, in case of a possible rollback. Unzip the file, write it to disk along with the DOS program.

Step 4

Remove the special jumper on the motherboard to prevent flashing. Turn on the computer and boot into BIOS. Disable BIOS caching in RAM and VIDEO settings.

Step 5

Boot from disk and run the utility from under DOS by selecting "No multitasking support" in the settings. Run the distribution installation file. Specify the path to the new firmware version. To the question: "Save the old firmware?" answer - YES. After a few minutes, the program will inform you about the completion of the BIOS replacement. Reboot your computer.
